2nd Graders in the Art Room

Your child is currently learning about Dutch artist, Vincent van Gogh!  We have just started a new project based on his painting, Sunflowers.  Be on the lookout for your child's watercolor/oil pastel resist sunflower!  Have your child show you their overlapping flower petals.

3rd Grade Artists

Third graders have started my unit on the color wheel.  Your child should know the follwing by the end of this unit: primary, secondary, and compound colors, warm and cool colors, complimentary colors, and analagous colors.  I hope you enjoyed their color wheel that went home last week!  We are currently working on the warm and cool watercolor weaving project.  You will be amazed by their masterpiece!

4th Grade Artists - Empty Bowls by the Lake Project

Your child has been very busy with clay in the art classroom!  I'm sure you read about the "Empty Bowls Project" in The Press.  The “Empty Bowls Project” is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. The mission is to create positive and lasting change through the arts, education, and projects that build community.

Potters, crafters, educators, students and volunteers work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Local restaurants donate soup and bread to serve. Guests are invited on October 13 to a simple meal of soup and bread served at Blesser Park in Avon Lake from 11am-2pm. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the “empty bowls” in the world. All proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

Your child made 2 bowls.  One bowl is for this charity event, and the second one is for them to take home.  This project has given me another great opportunity to stress how significant it is to help others in  need.
